Palmetto Subacute Care Center in Miami took home second place in the FHCA 2022 Long Term Care Photo Contest with the entry, “Therapy Through Love and Companionship,” captured by photographer Famela Restrepo, the care center’s Director of Activities. The photo features Buddy, the 7-year old beagle of administrator Monica Calogne, who often comes to work with Monica on Fridays to visit with the residents. They enjoy his sweet nature, and petting him is often a calming experience and brings back memories of when they had pets of their own.
Restrepo has been with Palmetto Subacute Care Center since 2015. She has a dedication, compassion and happiness that is well received by the residents and staff. She has always had a passion for geriatric care, which was inspired by her grandmother. “I see my grandmother in my residents, so I try to do my best to make them as happy as I wish my grandmother would be,” said Famela.
FHCA rewarded Palmetto Subacute Care Center with $300 to contribute toward staff and resident activities. Restrepo will receive a $50 Visa gift card for capturing this image.
FHCA’s Long Term Care Photo Contest is open annually to those who live, work, or volunteer in an FHCA member care center or those who work with an FHCA business partner. Nearly 100 photos were entered into this year’s contest, which focused on the theme “Better Together” and the importance of being together with residents, families, staff and volunteers and the positive impact it makes on quality care and quality of life.
The winning photos will be displayed during FHCA’s 2022 Annual Conference & Trade Show, July 31-August 4 at the Hyatt Regency Orlando. Read more about this year’s Long Term Care Photo Contest, winners and view all the entries by clicking here.
