The Florida Health Care Association (FHCA) honoredKevin McDonnell of Seaside Health and Rehabilitation in Daytona Beach with this year’s Nursing Home Administrator of the Year Award at the 2024 Annual Conference & Trade Show in Orlando, Florida.
McDonnell first began serving as Seaside’s Administrator in April of 2020. Under his leadership, the facility has achieved a five star rating from the federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ Care Compare. As administrator, McDonnell has led the facility through the COVID-19 pandemic and the recertification accreditation through the Joint Commission.
“Kevin works tirelessly every day to ensure the highest quality of care for our residents,” said Tricia Thacker, CEO of Aston Health, which manages Seaside Health and Rehabilitation along with 43 other long term care centers in Florida. “He is passionate about serving the residents who call Seaside home and has created a wonderful working environment for his team. We’re proud that he’s receiving this well-deserved award.”
Throughout his four years at Seaside, McDonnell’s most challenging and rewarding experience as Administrator happened on September 29, 2021, when the facility had to evacuate for the first time in its 60-year history. As Hurricane Ian headed toward Florida, Kevin and his team safely evacuated more than 150 residents in less than 24 hours. McDonnell coordinated and oversaw the transfer of each resident – many who require extra care – to a sister facility, keeping the focus on their safety, health and well-being.

FHCA’s Long Term Care Achievement Awards recognize the exemplary contributions of long-term care leaders and volunteers who daily demonstrate commitment to quality care through their dedication to residents, staff, and the long-term care profession. Awards are presented during the FHCA Annual Conference & Trade Show. The annual FHCA Administrator of the Year Awards recognize both a Nursing Home and Assisted Living Facility Administrator of the Year.
