Michael Franklin’s long term care career began while he was serving as a medic in the United States Army. While stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, Michael provided care for retired soldiers. That experience from over 40 years ago humbled Michael and taught him to see “people as people, not sick or old.”
Michael is the Activities Director at Solaris Healthcare Forest Lake, and for the past 16 years, he has created a lively, engaging activities program that truly enhances quality of life. From organizing multiple themed outings each month to planning shows, entertainment, and special events, Michael thoughtfully considers each resident’s preferences and interests.
Michael uses his military experience to continue seeing people as unique individuals, whether they are residents of the center, a family member or a coworker. Michael takes time to listen and provides a caring environment.
What truly sets Michael apart is his selflessness. He never seeks recognition or credit for the countless things he does behind the scenes. He raises funds for residents and the Resident Council, secures donations, coordinates volunteers and entertainers, works closely with Veterans organizations, and gives back to families in need within the community.
A Veteran himself, Michael leads with compassion, humility, and an unwavering sense of service. He is dependable, kind-hearted, and always willing to step in wherever he is needed.
While some days can be challenging, Michael shares that his work in long term care is fun and fulfilling, especially when it’s done with patience and compassion. Michael is a true example of “service above self.”
