Resident Outings Enhance Quality of Life at DeSoto Health and Rehab
DeSoto Health and Rehab earned an Honorable Mention with its “Peace at the River” photo in Florida Health Care Association’s (FHCA) annual Long Term Care Photo Contest. The photo, taken by Michelle Tew, received 312 votes in the Facebook public voting contest. “Peace at the River” depicts DeSoto residents enjoying an outing to The Peace River in DeSoto County, Florida.
Photographer Michelle Tew has worked as an Activities professionals at DeSoto Health and Rehab for almost three years. “The Peace River, where this picture was taken, is a pretty big part of life in DeSoto County,” Tew said. “Being able to capture my residents experiencing a little slice of peace that our river provides is what drew me to take the picture.”
DeSoto Health and Rehab is an FHCA member care in Acadia, Florida. At this small-town center, care is personal, and the community is tightly knit. Tew said, “The residents at DeSoto Health and Rehab are the reason that we strive to make a difference. They’re our neighbors, our friends, our loved ones. Being able to come together to enrich the lives of our seniors is just one reason why I, [our resident’s family] and DeSoto Health and Rehab wanted to participate in Florida Health Care Association’s Long Term Photo Contest.”
FHCA rewarded DeSoto Health and Rehab with $100 to contribute to staff and resident activities. Tew will receive a $50 Visa gift card for capturing this image. The photo contest is open annually to those who live, work, or volunteer in an FHCA member care center or those who work with an FHCA business partner.
The winning photos will be displayed during FHCA’s 2019 Annual Conference & Trade Show, August 4-8 at the Hyatt Regency Orlando. Read more about this year’s Long Term Care Photo Contest, winners and view all the entries by clicking here.
