Avante at Boca Raton took home second place in the FHCA 2021 Long Term Care Photo Contest with the entry, “Freedom,” captured by photographer Stacey Krieger. The photo features Brian, an active resident who was diagnosed with COVID and quarantined for three weeks. After he received his second negative test, Brian immediately went outside and intentionally laid down because he couldn’t wait to feel the clod, damp grass on his face.
Krieger is the activity director at Avante at Boca Raton, where she has worked for almost six years. She’s a passionate caregiver who loves what she does, having spent over 35 years working in the long term care profession. When asked what inspired her to take this photo, Krieger shared that she “wanted to capture the pure bliss on his face and the sheer joy and rapture he felt when his wish came true.
FHCA rewarded Avante with $300 to contribute toward staff and resident activities. Krieger will receive a $50 Visa gift card for capturing this image.
FHCA’s Long Term Care Photo Contest is open annually to those who live, work, or volunteer in an FHCA member care center or those who work with an FHCA business partner. Nearly 100 photos were entered into this year’s contest, which focused on the bright spots during COVID and how staff and residents stayed resilient throughout the pandemic with activities, virtual visits, community support, drive-by parades and more.
The winning photos will be displayed during FHCA’s 2021 Annual Conference & Trade Show, July 25-29 at the Rosen Shingle Creek Orlando. Read more about this year’s Long Term Care Photo Contest, winners and view all the entries by clicking here.
